Interesting times at either end of our fair town. The Rifleman pub on Fourth Cross Road which ground to a halt a few months ago is now open again under the Twickenam Ales banner. It’s good to see Twickenham’s leading brewery (not quite its only one) taking over a boozer and let’s hope it can build up a loyal following. Expect Naked Ladies and Redheads to be on offer along with other great brews from Twickenham Ales. In fact, there’s a pretty decent pub crawl available around the Hampton and Staines Roads for anyone so inclined.
Meanwhile the “premises of doom” at 65 Richmond Road is showing signs of new life. The place most recently occupied by ‘rarely open’ French restaurant Le Baron and, prior to that, things like The Clubhouse, The Mulberry Tree and, if you go way back, the Mongolian Barbeque, is being fitted out for a new business. Word is it’s going to be a “Wags n Tales”? Do what? Well, there’s already one such popular dog friendly café and bar over in Surbiton and a Twickenham branch might do well given its proximity to Marble Hill Park. Woof woof. What are you saying, Lassie? “We can expect artisan coffee, cakes and fresh homemade food in a friendly and informal space”? Woof! Ah, thanks. The unit has a lot of square footage there and so they’ll need to shift a lot of cappuccinos and carrot cake assuming they won’t be charging for bowls of water but it sounds like a good idea.
Cheers, and good luck to ‘em both!
