Ahoy there Twickerati readers! Just a quick note on data security given all this GDPR stuff that’s been floating around recently. We reckon you will have been delighted not to have to suffer “Say goodbye forever or else!” emails from us but we thought data security and privacy was definitely worth a mention.
This site runs on the WordPress.com platform meaning we follow their lead. Security of data is important to us hence using two step authentication for access to the blog. What information do we have about you? Well, if you have opted to receive email blog updates then we have your email address. If you no longer wish to receive them you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the link at the bottom of the email or on the website (right hand menu bar). We will not share your email address with anyone else nor use it for marketing purposes. In others words, if you’ve signed up for blog updates by email great, if you no longer want them, feel free to unsubscribe.
In addition, if you make comments on the site then WordPress will record your IP address and, if you provided one, your email address. These are part of the comments bit of the WordPress blog dashboard and are not used for marketing purposes and we will not share them with anyone. They are used as part of the background stats analysis on things like the number of site visitors and for automatically authenticating comments from previously approved commenters.
And lastly, if you follow the blog through your own WordPress account then we can see you WordPress username. Again, we will not use this data for marketing purposes nor share it with anyone.
If you are concerned about personal data on the comments section, please do contact us and we will review it and remove it where appropriate. This has always been and will continue to be our policy. Not comments are moderated in advance, comments from perviously approved commenters are ‘auto-approved’ but will endeavour to address any concerns quickly.
And finally, if we are legally obliged to disclose data to ‘the authorities’ for any reason then we will comply with those legal obligations. If possible we will share with you that we are doing so.
In other words, we take your data security and privacy seriously and this site collects and stores data in order to operate in the way it does on the WordPress platform. As a personal blog running on a third party platform we believe we are compliant with the GDPR regulations and hope you continue to enjoy the site and visit often. If you do have any questions or comments, please email them to email@example.com.
Keep it real, keep it Twickenham. And thanks for reading!
