Remember that this isn’t a listings site, that would be simply too tiresome, but we have highlighted some of the great stuff going on in the area. Have a look and get some dates down in your calendar.

Twickenham Festival will be running from 6th June to 7th July. We’re not going to list everything here but there are plenty of links to places that do. Some of the events are organised by the Twickenham Town Business Association, others by LBRuT, others form part of the Twickenham Alive Riverside Festival and others simply are what they are. Some things run across several weekends so keep an eye out for those too.

Sun 7th July, Friends of Twickenham Green Village Fair – No prizes for guessing where this one takes place. Expect music, bars, food, diverse stalls (commercial and charity/non-profit). Friends’ website.
Sun 7th July, Strawberry Hill Music & Fun Day – Lots of live bands, entertainment and stalls selling crafts, food and drinks in the grounds of St Mary’s University College and Strawberry Hill House. Usually when it comes to the words ‘fun day’ we get all flustered and are inclined to say, “let us be the judge of that after the event” but to be fair, this is usually a good one. Sat 13th July, St Margarets Fair – Moor Mead. Always an impressive variety of stalls and entertainment at this event. Details here.
June – August, Diamond Jubilee Gardens – The gardens play host to a series of events over the summer including a Coronation Garden Party (2nd June), a first birthday celebration to mark the anniversary of the Blue Baron donning a white jacket to open the gardens to the public (23rd June), a ‘Our Big Gig’ (14th July) and a day of local poetry and literature (21st July). Orleans House Gallery, Arcadian Vistas – Running through to 21st July, Arcadian Vistas explores the changes in local gardens, including Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens, from formal to more naturalistic designs. Info. OHG also run a range of summer art courses and workshops which are well worth investigating.
Stables Gallery, Movement & Light – Don’t forget to check out the Stables Gallery at Orleans House too. From 6th June to 28th July the 10th anniversary exhibition from the Just Glass Society will be on show. It’s called Movement and Light.
8th & 9th June, Photography Exhibition, St Margarets – All Souls church in St Margarets will be hosting a ‘celebration of nature’ photography exhibition to help raise awareness about the local environment. More.
22nd & 23rd June, Midsummer Art Fair – Landmark Arts Centre, Teddington. Over 90 artists exhibiting paintings, prints, sculpture, jewellery and photographs. Info.
21st -23rd June and 28th-30th June, ARThouse, Richmond Open Studios – Artists from across the Borough open their studios to the public. Your chance to see the wealth of artistic talent in the area. ARThouse.
22nd & 23rd June – Eel Pie Artists Open Studios – Your chance to see (and buy) some great work from the artists on Eel Pie Island. There’s always plenty of great work on display. Eel Pie Artists
Sat 1st June, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Florence & The Machine & others – Chime for Change charity concert at Twickenham Stadium. Tickets
Sat 15th & Sun 16th June, Rihanna – The superstar stops off at Twickenham Stadium on her Diamonds tour. A few super-expensive tickets may be left.

Kneller Hall Summer Concerts – The home of the Royal Military School of Music plays host to a series of concerts across July. There’s music from the movies, the Army Big Band and even a Last Night of the Proms. More info
Kew The Music, Kew Gardens – Outdoor concerts at Kew Gardens between 9th and 14th July featuring the likes of Blondie, The Human League, Jools Holland & Bellowhead + the Bard of Barking, Billy Bragg. The Paul Weller gig has sold out. Information
Hampton Pool Concerts – The open air pool will be putting on gigs across July. This year’s artists include Midge Ure (let’s just hope it doesn’t mean nothing to him…. ahhhhhh Vienna), ABC and The Zombies. Details here

Richmond Shakespeare Society, Mary Wallace Theatre – The highly respected local theatre group’s productions over the summer include Robin Hood in June and The Merry Wives of Windsor in July. This is the outdoor production by the Naked Ladies, Sunday 21st to Saturday 27th July. September will feature Educating Rita. Details.

Sun 9th June, Twickenham Police Open Day – The fuzz will be opening their doors to the public again this year. Take a look around, watch demos, hear about the work of police dogs, horses, volunteering etc. There’s also face painting, some vintage police cars, free cycle marking and your chance to get your finger prints taken (but hopefully not kept on record).Details here.
Sun 30th June, Strictly Cycling Bikefest – Free event in Kneller Gardens with bike races, bike polo, skills, a bike doctor & more. Info.
Across the summer – Richmond Gardens Festival – A borough wide celebration of Richmond’s green spaces and gardens, both contemporary and historic. Events take place across the summer. There are exhibitions, walks, tours, family events and performances. More info from El Brute.
Sat 17th & Sun 18th Aug, World Club 7s – Expect some top teams from Europe and down under in this 7s tournament at Twickenham Stadium. Some seriously fast, flowing rugby will be on display. More details.

Sun 9th, Turk’s Head 10k, 10.30am – 10k run organised by the Bearcat Running Club which starts in Orleans Gardens by the river (i.e. near the swings & kiosk) and heads through Twickenham to Teddington Lock then Richmond Bridge and back to the start. Sold out but spectators welcome. More
Sat 15th June, Archdeacon Cambridge’s School summer fair – 11.30am to 4.00pm. Plenty going on for families including a petting farm, BBQ (not linked to the animals in the petting farm) & a bar serving Twickenham Fine Ales.
Sat 15th June, Radnor Gardens Family Fun day – Stalls, children’s rides, music, booze, bowls and more by the river. 12.00pm – 7.00pm.
Sun 16th June, TWICKENHAM CARNIVAL – A biggie. 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Includes the carnival parade from York House to Orleans House Gallery where there’ll be music, food, stalls and entertainment in the gallery gardens. It’s a good event and worth a visit. More.
Sun 16th June, Church Street Garden Day – Get all flowered up in Church Street with assorted plant and craft stalls. Everything will be going green as the street gets grassed over for the day! 10.00-5.00pm. This forms part of El Brute’s Gardens Festival 2013 which pulls together a range of green and floral themes. Sun 16th June, Trafalgar Junior School – summer fair with lots of stalls entertainment for the kids.
Mon 17th June, Photography Cruise – Take a trip on the Thames Venturer up the river and get some expert photography advice from John Frye, a local professional.

Sun 23rd June, Twickenham Alive Dragon Boat Races – From 10.00am to 6.00pm at Twickenham Embankment. Plus live music, children’s rides & stalls. Watch the boats, have a drink. Nice. More info
Sun 23rd June – Diamond Jubilee Gardens 1st Birthday – The title says it all really but among the activities from 12.00 to 4.00pm will be a ‘Borough’s Best Banger’ competition. It’s a kind of barbecue thing apparently. A ‘sausage-off’ if you will. More.

28th – 30th June, French Market, Twickenham – The French Market returns to Church Street bringing it’s usual array of cheeses, rustic produce (i.e. weird ciders and the like), crepes, not so rustic produce (e.g. weird sweets) and other bits and pieces. Always worth a wander.
Fri 28th June, Strawberry Hill House Summer Ball – Dress up period-stylee or just get yourself looking mighty fine to take a (dance) step back to the 18th century at Horace Walpole’s gothic gaff. 7.15pm – midnight. More info
