And (some of) the winners are…

The winners of the Richmond Business Awards were announced recently at a glittering gala dinner at the Richmond Hill Hotel. Actually we have no idea if it actually was glittering but there was some dinner going on and it was a posh frocks affair. For ze gentlemen, black tie. For ze ladies, “long evening dresses”. We tried to get the twickerati ice cream van into the car park but got turned away, after pranging a Merc and then dropping our doner kebab in the hotel reception. But to be fair to the organisers, this website is not a remotely viable business so we’ll happily take another “nul points” on the awards front. Again.

Anyway… the awards celebrate the best local businesses across a range of categories. You can check the website for full details of all the categories, winners and special commendations but here are a few notables which have a strong Twickenham connection:

Best New Start Up
Winner: Accounts Resource

Locally based (well, more Tedders than Twickers), innovative firm of chartered accountants working with small to medium sized businesses across south west London.

Best Retail Business
Winner: Real Ale Ltd

The specialist real ale shop and distributor based in East Twickenham. If you loves a bit of proper booze, you like this place.

Commended: Sweet Memories, the Church Street based provider of retro sweets, ice cream and chocolate to the twickerati (that’s you lot).

Best Charity or Not For Profit
Winner: Spear

Established in 1986, Spear is a Twickenham based charity doing excellent work across the Borough helping homeless and other vulnerable people.

Highly Commended: INS
Integrated Neurological Services is a Twickenham based charity
providing long-term support for people with neurological conditions
and their carers across the boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow.

People’s Award
Winner: For Sanity’s Sake

Excellent, award-winning local website helping parents of pre-schoolers keep ’em busy and share ideas with other parents and carers.

Best Business
Winner: Ionian Weddings

Twickenham-based consultancy specialising in planning weddings in Greece and Cyprus. Stunning views and clear blue skies on your wedding day? Sounds alright doesn’t it.

We said we weren’t going to list every business and we haven’t. But congratulations to all the nominated organisations on their good work and especially, of course, to all the winners. Nice work, dudes!

And if your favourite business missed out, you can always nominate them for a local gong this time next year. Who’d get your vote?

  1. Thanks for the mention, Twickerati. SPEAR is delighted to be recognised for our work in Twickenham, and throughout the borough.
The inside scoop on the gala dinner is that it did indeed glitter a bit – and the awards themselves are lovely shiny bits of glass!
You and the rest of the Twickerati can find out more about our work at our website – http://www.spearlondon.org.
